Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said that “Greece was and remains fully prepared to face this challenge, if Turkey finally decides to pursue it”. The Greek minister was referring to a series of official requests published in the Turkish Government Gazette, concerning the granting of a license to the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) for maritime research and exploitation.

Mr. Dendias presented  demarche to the Turkish ambassador to Athens, since Ankara is making it clear that it does not recognize the Greek continental shelf, as the Turkish company is seeking to conduct research near Rhodes, Karpathos and Crete.

The Foreign Minister reiterated that Turkey’s illegal actions do not produce legal effects and that they are unable to infringe on Greece’s sovereign rights, which are based on International Law and International Law on the Sea.
