Distinguished sommeliers from the famous London private Club 67 Pall Mall, traveled recently to Crete In order to get acquainted with the Cretan wine. At the initiative of the Wines of Crete wineries network and the region of Crete, the wine experts visited several wineries in Chania and Heraklion, took part in thematic wine tastings of local varieties as well as thematic dinners and went on to guided tours to the ancient presses in Vathipetro.
The team included: Assistant head sommelier Svetoslav Manolev, the Wset Diplomat sommelier Jitka Auermullerova, sommelier Blagoy kuzmanski, cellar master Jan Fitl and Greek Assistant head sommelier, Klearchos Kannelakis.
“What impressed us in Crete is the variety of different styles of wine,” Klearchos Kanalelakis told ert.gr and reporter Nikos Ioannides. “Our goal at Pall Mall 67 is to highlight it as we do with every qualitative area on the planet,” he said.
“Crete must build on and invest in the incredible value-for-money quality of its wines, the wide variety of native grapes and the quantity it can produce in contrast to smaller islands,” he added.
The Club 67 Pall Mall operates in the center of London and is an internationally recognized wine spot. It has a group of 17 distinguished sommeliers while its members are mainly people from the wine field: importers, sommeliers and producers from all over the world.
