Before departing for Berlin on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made new provocative remarks against our country, stating that “the Turkish-Libyan memorandum has driven Greece crazy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis is playing the game wrongly.”

Commenting on Erdogan’s statements, the Greek Foreign Ministry says that “for Greece, it is not a matter of concern to make policy through nonsensical and provocative statements, but to implement the steps that ensure security and stability throughout the region”. The Foreign Ministry also responded to Turkish announcements of hydrocarbon exploration within the Cyprus EEZ.

In its official statement, the Greek ministry the Turkish drilling has been described as illegal, with numerous violations of international law such as invasion and occupation of land, violation of airspace and territorial waters, violation of sovereign rights and attempt to seize offshore resources from neighboring and non-member countries.
