Athens is waiting for the State Department’s official announcements to finalize the visit of the American Secretary of State to Greece. Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Greece next weekend, September 27-29, in a move of strategic importance, in the midst of the Greek-Turkish crisis, while he will also visit Souda Bay.
Meanwhile, a new diplomatic marathon is under way with the aim of resuming the exploratory contacts between Athens and Ankara, with the most prevalent scenario placing the beginning of discussions taking place after the EU leaders Summit.
Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will be in Brussels today to participate in the Foreign Affairs Council, whose agenda will include the issues of Turkey and Belarus.
“A substantial dialogue will take place based on international law and good neighborly relations. Without provocations or threats. It is not legal for Turkey to make the relinquishment of sovereign rights a precondition for dialogue”, said Dendias.
