Closer coordination and cooperation in the Mediterranean EU member states is the object of the Summit, currently held at Zappeion, after the Greek Prime Minister’s initiative. Main participants in the Summit are the leaders of France, Italy, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta and a Spanish government representative.

The purpose of the meeting is to contribute to the shaping of a new vision for the EU, enabling the Union to face common challenges, particularly in the fields of economy, migration and security.

The Greek government will seek broader alliances in areas such as the support for the Juncker Plan, the EU-Turkey refugee agreement reinforcement and the implementation of the European Council decisions on refugee relocation.
