From 21 to 24 of June, 55 cities and regions of Greece are hosting more than 345 concerts and cultural events featuring 362 bands and ensembles, 45 philharmonic and symphonic orchestras, 42 choirs and 71 DJs in more than 292 venues across the 13 regions of Greece.
On its 19th year, the European Music Day brings again all the musicians out into the streets, in the neighborhoods, squares, pedestrian streets and parks. From Lefkada to Nisyros and from Dimitsana to Alexandroupolis, the program has been enriched with new cities that have joined the European Music Day network.
The European Music Day is the biggest open air, entrance-free musical gathering and a true celebration that brings people together, offering them a chance to enjoy music from all over the world. At the same time, hundreds of artists are being given the chance to present their work to a diverse audience.
The opening ceremony on Thursday, June 21, will take place in cooperation with the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation, presenting an original artistic partnership at the Chios Mastic Museum, and will be broadcasted live on the Hellenic Tourism Organization’s official website.
In Athens, on June 20th, the major music event will kick off with an electro pre-party at Spinster (3 Iktinou st, Psyrri). On June 21, concerts and various happenings will take place at the National Archaeological Museum, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus with ERT’s Orchestra in collaboration with the Athens Festival, Megaron’s Garden and many more places participating in the event.
In Thessaloniki, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki will give a baroque concert in Rotunda, while artistic-folk notes will sound at the central square of Xanthi from “Mikis Theodorakis” Orchestra. Seven DJs, music producers and a visual artist will meet for an one-evening event at the Venetian Harbor of Chania. Sykia in Xylokastro will host the biggest beach party of the summer with 15 beach events, while in the Acheloos Valley concerts will take place along the river’s bridges.
