The recent wave of bad weather has caused significant damages, especially in Crete, however, the severe weather phenomena are subsiding today.

The police have informed that investigation is under way in order to locate a 61-year-old stockbreeder in the municipality of Apokoronas, who was swept away yesterday, by the torrential waters. The prefecture of Chania has been cut in two, as several bridges have collapsed.

Several settlements on the border of the prefecture of Rethymnon with Chania are facing power cuts. Stavros Arnaoutakis, Regional Governor of Crete, spoke of large scale disasters in the road network, infrastructure and crops.

In the rest of the country, many villages in the mountains of Central Greece and Thessaly remain inaccessible.

Chains or snow tires are required for most of the mountain road network, whereas in many areas, traffic has been completely suspended.
