Following a meeting with deputy Sports Minister Giorgos Vassiliadis, the president of the organizing authority of the Greek football league, Giorgos Stratos, expressed the opposition of the FCs to the government’s decision to stop the league until further notice. However, the government seems to stick to its decision, and Mr. Vassiliadis has stressed that the decision was made to ensure the safety of the sports fans, the footballers and everyone involved in the sport.
A delegation of FIFA is coming to Athens, on Wednesday, to discuss the latest developments with the bodies involved. In a letter posted on PAOK FC website, PAOK president Ivan Savvidis has apologized for his behavior at the football field of Touba. The European Club Association (ECA) has condemned the behavior of Mr. Savvidis, and has announced its decision to suspend the membership of PAOK until further notice.
