Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias visited Tunis on Monday, where he met with the country’s state and political leadership as part of Athens’ diplomatic efforts to normalize the situation in the Southeastern Mediterranean, approaching the countries bordering but also affecting developments in Libya.

The talks focused on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the crisis in Libya, and the bilateral relations.

The Greek Foreign Minister and his Tunisian counterpart, Noureddine Erray, signed an agreement to further facilitate maritime transport.

Mr. Dendias noted that Greece recognizes the constructive and stabilizing role Tunisia plays in the region, while for his part Mr. Erray stressed that “Tunisia opposes any foreign intervention or military intervention in Libya.”
