On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. The cause of his resignation seems to be the “clash” within the government with National Defense Minister Panos Kammenos and the fact that the Prime Minister did not support Mr. Kotzias. Mr. Kotzias believed that the government did not cover his back in his conflict with the Defense Minister.

PM Tsipras accepted Mr. Kotzias’ resignation, and he himself took charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to “help with all his powers in successfully concluding the Prespa Agreement,” as he said. The Prime Minister also thanked Mr. Kotzias for his services towards the government and the country in the last 3.5 years.
