The Golden Dawn trial is expected to resume today, at 12.30 pm, with the prosecutor’s proposal regarding mitigating terms and the announcement of the sentences.
The jail sentences that will be imposed on each of the guilty parties will depend on the court’s decision regarding the mitigating terms.
For Giorgos Roupakias, Pavlos Fyssas’ murderer, today’s trial will determine whether he will face life imprisonment or a 15-year prison sentence. Respectively, the seven members who were found guilty for running a criminal organization, will face 15 years in prison or a much shorter sentence, depending on the mitigating terms, the sentences range from 2 to 8 years in prison. For the rest of the party’s members, the acknowledgment of mitigating factors reduces the sentence from 5 to 10 years to 1 to 5 years.
The court will also decide on the crucial issue of suspensions, which defendants will be taken to prison. Police are on high alert to make arrests.
