According to the OECD report “Tourism Trends and Policies 2018”, Greece is one of the top tourist destinations worldwide. In 2016, Greece attracted 28 million visitors, 7.5% more than in 2015, who generated revenue amounting to 14.6 billion dollars. Overnight stays amounted to 193.4 million, while cruise ship passengers reached 5.1 million.
France was Europe’s most popular tourist destination in 2016, with 83 million visitors, followed by Spain (75.3 million visitors), Great Britain (36 million visitors) and Italy (32.5 million visitors). Spain ranked first in the revenue from tourism in 2016, with 60 billion dollars, followed by France (42.3 billion dollars), and Italy and Great Britain (39.4 billion dollars).
