Cosco plans to make additional investments of 500 million euros at the port of Piraeus – besides the 350 million that were originally announced under the PPA concession agreement. This was made known to the Greek PM Alexis Tsipras by Cosco president, Hu Lirong, during their meeting in Shanghai, yesterday Wednesday.

Investments in the cruise line sector in the port of Piraeus is a priority for the Chinese giant, Hu Lirong, stated. Cosco already has contacts with leading international cruise lines showing interest to make the port of Piraeus their home base.

Another priority of Cosco is to upgrade the port infrastructure in the container terminals in order to make Piraeus the largest port of its’ kind in the Mediterranean.

PM Alexis Tsipras welcomed the investment programme and stressed that this is an important milestone in the relations between the two countries. “This enhances considerably the Sino-Greek cooperation.
The strategic plans of Greece and China coincide.
Greece, is EU’s gateway and could turn into a bridge between China and the Western world, between Asia and Europe” he said.

The Greek PM concluded his official visit to China yesterday, after meeting with the president of the Chinese company Alibaba e-retail, president of research and development center ZTE, the president of the Chinese investment company Fosun and other Chinese entrepreneurs.
