The Minister of Environment and Energy Kostis Hatzidakis, referred to the bill that will ban the use of single-use plastics by July 2021 which he tabled to the Parliament, as an important step for the tackling of plastic pollution and the protection of the Environment.

Speaking to ERT, the Greek minister said that the draft law will change our daily habits, stressing that 50% of all sea waste, is single-use plastics.

The target of this bill is to reduce the use of plastic cups and food containers by 30% until 2024 and by 60% by 2026, as well as motivate businesses to redesign products and recycle.

For all the soon-to-be banned products, alternative solutions will be proposed by the government, while all public services will enforce the ban six months ahead of the official deadline.
