Margaritis Schinas is the Greek government’s proposal for the European Commission. Mr. Schinas has a long mandate in the European institutions and held a leading role in the de-escalation of the debt crisis in 2015.
Over the last five years Mr. Schinas has been the point of reference for all journalists in Brussels as the chief spokesperson of the European Commission and was a personal choice for outgoing president of Jean-Claude Juncker. From that position, Mr. Schinas participated in the whole spectrum of the sidelines processes during the crisis, managing to serve his institutional role even when Greece was under the threat of leaving the euro.
A confirmed pro-European, Mr Schoenas devoted his studies and career entirely to the European perspective. Born in Thessaloniki in 1962, he studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Public Administration and Policy at the London School of Economics.
