Greek apple producers will send trial shipments to India following a request they made in 2015 to expand to the Asian market giant, Giorgos Polychronakis, consultant to the Federation of Greek Export Businesses of Fruit, Vegetables and Juices Incofruit-Hellas, told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Tuesday.

The Indian Agricultural Ministry’s approval was conveyed to the corresponding Greek ministry through Vassilis Skronias, plenipotentiary minister of economic and commercial affairs at the Greek embassy in New Delhi.

The Indian government is interested in Greek apples and kiwi fruit of Greek production ?on a permanent basis?, pending a trial of at least 8 to 10 trial shipments under specified conditions.

Polychronakis told ANA that other agreements were pending for the export of Greek prunes, cherries and citrus fruit.
