Greece's public debt totaled 323.378 billion euros at the end of the second quarter of 2018, from 309.091 billion euros in the same period last year, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Tuesday.
The statistics service, in a report on quarterly non-financial accounts of the general government, said that interest payments totaled 1.67 billion euros (8.2 pct of total spending by the general government), up from 1.424 billion in the second quarter of 2017 (7.0 pct of spending).
The general government's revenue was 20.188 billion euros, from 20.419 billion in 2017, income and property tax revenue was 4.731 billion euros (4.919 billion in 2017) accounting for 23.4 pct of total revenues (24.1 pct last year). Tax on production and imports was 6.869 billion euros, down from 7.063 billion in 2017, accounting for 34 pct of total revenues (34.6 pct in 2017), while social insurance contributions totaled 6.499 billion euros, from 6.505 billion in 2017, accounting for 32.2 pct of total revenues (31.9 pct last year).
General government spending was 20.368 billion euros, up from 20.27 billion in the second quarter of 2017. Primary spending was 18.698 billion (18.846 billion in 2017) accounting for 91.8 pct of total spending (93 pct last year). Payroll spending was 5.402 billion euros or 26.5 pct of total spending and social benefits was 9.081 billion euros or 44.6 pct of total spending.
