“Greek yoghurt” denomination may not be used for products produced outside Greece, stated a spokesperson of the European Commission, according to EURACTIV news site. The denomination “Greek yoghurt” was used in a bill of Czech Republic on dairy products; this caused the reaction of Athens, which asked the Commission to take a stand.

The use of the name “Greek yoghurt” for products produced outside Greece misleads consumers and results in unfair competition, said the EU official, adding that the Commission is in contact with Czech authorities on this issue and has clearly explained its stance.
