The Hellenic Hydrocarbon Resources Management President Yannis Basias presented at an energy conference in Athens, a map of “plots” with the identified areas for hydrocarbon exploration. There are more than 30 such areas and they are located in the Ionian Sea and the sea area west and south of Crete, according to the recent research done on other plots that have either been granted or are under concession.

However, only drilling can provide information as to how many hydrocarbons are hidden deep in the sea. Yet, it is encouraging, that in the neighboring countries that are on the HHRM map, there has been hydrocarbon production.
