Clashes between police and hooded rioters throwing firebombs and stones erupted outside the central headquarters of the Hellenic Police (ELAS) on Alexandras Avenue on Saturday evening, after the annual protest march marking the anniversary of the November 17, 1973 student uprising at the Athens Polytechnic.

Police responded to the attacks by throwing flash-bang grenades to drive back the rioters, who were pushed back toward Exarchia Square.

Earlier, youths had thrown firebombs on Stournari Street outside the Polytechnic.
