Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou ordered an investigation following the testimony of PASOK’s former high-ranking official Theodoros Tsoukatos regarding an extensive private party funding, which in 2000 amounted to 16 billion drachmas.

Also, Mr. Tsoukatos referred to the extensive party expenses at the time, which included among other things, media advertising, transport of voters with planes, ships and buses, the issuing and distribution of campaign material, and the preparation of campaign rallies.

Tsoukatos also referred to an excerpt from a book by Kostas Simitis on private party funding as a standing practice for political formations.
