Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a three-week nationwide lockdown following the suggestions of the Ministry of Health’s Committee of Experts.

The new restrictive measures that will go into effect on Saturday morning (7/11) at 6am and will include:

All retail stores will remain closed, with the exception of grocery shops.

All restaurants will close with the exception of delivery and take away.

Primary schools and kindergartens will stay open, while high-schools and universities, which will go back to distance learning.

Citizens will have to send a text message to 13033 in order to leave their homes.

“The big difference, compared to the previous lockdown, is the mandatory use of mask both in indoors spaces and outdoors”, said the prime minister.

Referring to the reasons that led the government to take this decision, he stressed: “In the last 5 days we have seen an exponential increase in cases. We saw nearly 10,000 cases in 5 days. We have seen a significant increase in hospital admissions, in the number of people on ventilators, in the ICUs. We have to stop this new wave”; said the Prime Minister.
