Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke on CNN about Greece’s “successful containment of the coronavirus pandemic”.
“It will be a very different summer. But we hope the worst is behind us. Again, what I hold as the legacy of this crisis is the feeling of collective success”, said Mr. Mitsotakis.
Referring to the prospects of the tourist season, the Prime Minister noted that: “In the best case scenario, Greece will be open for tourism from July 1 and we are working towards this direction. But this of course depends on the airlines as well as to strict and applicable protocols “.
At the same time, the Minister of Tourism, Haris Theocharis, stressed from the Parliament that the government has a plan to support Greek tourism. “We will take advantage of every opportunity, but in compliance with the sanitary regulations so that neither the citizens’ or the visitors’ health is endangered,” he said.
He also noted that a promotional campaign will be ready in the coming weeks, while he also stressed the need to strengthen the contacts with tour operators and the international media, in order to enhance the country’s image to potential visitors.
