Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during the press conference in Thessaloniki, referred to the return of Oruc Reis to Antalya as a positive first step and stressed that he really hopes this first step must be followed by others.

“If there are steps towards this direction, Greece is ready to start a new cycle of exploratory contacts with Turkey. Dialogue in good faith is the main way to deal with the only problem we have, which is the delimitation of maritime zones,” he said.

On the new arms procurement program, the Prime Minister said: “The new arms procurement program is ambitious, but within the country’s economic potential. The approach is different as some significant investments are made, but it is recognized that the armed forces are above all the human resources and for this reason 15,000 recruitments will be made in the following five years”.

“The Rafales warplanes will replace the older Mirage 2000”, he noted and added that our forecast and our hope is that the first aircraft will arrive in Greece in the middle of 2021 and that the procedure will be completed by the beginning of 2022 at the latest”, he added.
