In an effort to find common ground and de-escalate tensions in the North Aegean region, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with officials from the islands’ local authorities, on Thursday, at Maximos Mansion.

All pertaining issues were discussed during the meeting, focusing on restoring confidence, while the need for actions towards reducing migration flows and supporting local communities, was confirmed.

There was a consensus on the need for immediate decongestion of the islands, starting with those who have already received asylum.

It was also agreed to take measures to support local communities, including horizontal economic measures, as well as specific ones for each island based on the needs. The Prime Minister will visit Samos, Chios and Lesvos in the next few days.
