Yiorgos Lanthimos’ new film The Favourite won 10 awards at the British Independent Film Awards ceremony which took place on Sunday, December 2, 2018. The film which was nominated for a total of 13 awards, ended up winning 10 of them including Best Picture. Lanthimos‘s acclaimed costume drama also took home Best Director, Best Actress (Olivia Colman); Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Weisz), Best Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup & Hair and Best Production Design.

In addition to The Favourite, Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma won Best International Independent Production, Joe Cole won Best Actor Award for his performance in A Prayer Before Dawn by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, while Alessandro Nivola won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Sebastian Lelio’s film Disobedience. Finally, Jonny Greenwood won the Sound and Music Awards for Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, while British actress Judi Dench was presented with the 2018 Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution by an actor to British film.
