Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite” dominated this year’s BAFTAs, winning a total of seven awards. The 72nd British Film Academy Awards ceremony took place yesterday, Sunday, February 10, 2019 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
“The Favourite” took home seven awards, including best actress for Olivia Colman, best supporting actress for Rachel Weisz, outstanding British film, Best Original Screenplay, Art Direction, Costume, Makeup and Hairstyle).
“It’s a great honour… this film took 20 years to make – I contributed to the last 10.” Lanthimos said of the outstanding British film award and thanked actresses Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, “the three leading ladies that I couldn’t be more proud of.”

The film, that was co-produced by Yorgos Lanthimos and was written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, had received the most nominations of any film at the 72nd British Academy Film Awards with 12 nominations.
