“Layerings”, Greek master sculptor Costas Varotsos’ exhibition at the Cyclades Art Gallery is opening on on Saturday, June 10, at 19:00, with an introduction by the Director of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutzos Museum, Marina Lambraki-Plaka. Curator Haris Kanellopoulou will speak on the exhibition, which takes place in the context of the Syros-Ermoupolis Municipality’s cultural program “Syros-Culture 2017”.
Costas Varotsos was born in Athens in 1955. He studied architecture at the University of Pescara and continued studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and at the Fulbright Grant University in New York. He currently lives and works in Greece, having been elected, in 1999, professor at the Polytechnic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the Architecture Department, where he teaches Fine Arts.
At the former transit warehouses’ distinct space, conversing with the island’s character and history the Cycladic Art Gallery hosts sculptures based on “model” forms of his work, such as the horizon, the labyrinth, the spiral, and the column.
