Last Sunday, at the London Royal Library’s amphitheater a tribute to the work of Odysseas Elytis, took place, organized under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos. The tribute to the Nobel laureate, titled “The small world, the great!”, included lyrics by the poet, and music by George Kouroupos.
The event marked the occasion of the homonymous five-language anthology of Elytis poetry published by IKAROS Publications in text and audio format (CD).
Reciting lyrics in Greek and English was the poet Ioulita Iliopoulou, Elytis’s partner; and the former United Kingdom Ambassador to Greece, John Kitmer. Also participating were baritone Tassis Christogiannis, and the mezzo Theodora Baka.
Honoring the event with their presence were the Ambassador of Greece to the United Kingdom, Dimitrios Karamitsos – Tziras, and the High Commissioner of the Republic of the Cypriot Republic in London, Ambassador Evripidis L. Evriviadis.
Also in attendance were representatives of the artistic, intellectual and business worlds, as well as members of the Greek community.
