New Democracy opposition party leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of disregarding public safety, saying SYRIZA’s “ideological fixations” are the ones that dictate public policy. The statement follows an armed bank robbery in Ambelokipi, Athens, earlier on Tuesday.
Mitsotakis said his party has repeatedly stressed the importance of public security and civil protection by demanding of the Greek premier to address the issue with responsibility and effectiveness.
“Both Mr.Tsipras and his government feel uneasy and trapped in the ideological fixations of a certain pocket of SYRIZA, which appears to be imposing its views particularly on matters of public order and safety.” Mitsotakis said.
“But the more they turn a blind eye to anti-establishment groups, the higher the number of acts of violence and lawlessness become. Greek society demands security and prospects,” he added, noting that the prime minister and SYRIZA can offer no guarantee.
