Within the scope of his tour in Athens and Skopje, UN special mediator for the naming dispute Matthew Nimetz is visiting Athens, on Tuesday, to meet with Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and with New Democracy’s shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos. Talking on ERT, Mr. Kotzias explained that within February, the government will produce a draft agreement to FYROM on condition that the neighboring country amends its Constitution, and he further clarified that it is important for the Greek side that the composite name to be agreed is in the Slavic dialect and remains untranslated.

The Greek Foreign Minister added that the draft agreement will include seven paragraphs specifying the whole range of use of the name and a special chapter on irredentism and the Constitution, and that it will regulate issues concerning the international and regional position of FYROM, such as its integration in international organizations, as well as a “positive agenda on the development of bilateral relations”.
