The government, under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, discussed measures to decongest the Aegean islands from the influx of refugees and migrants.

The aim is to relocate 4,000 refugee families from the islands to the mainland in November, to establish new closed pre-departure centers for non-asylum seekers, and to tighten controls in the Aegean.

The migrants and the refugees will move to areas that are not particularly overpopulated, where they will make up less than 1% of the population in the region.

Meanwhile, the transfer of immigrants to mainland Greece, is in full swing.
