Reinforcing the defense collaboration between Greece and Germany bilaterally but also at EU and NATO level, the global and regional developments, as well as the programs for the boosting of European defense, were all central elements of the talks portfolio during the meeting between the Greek Minister of Defense Evangelos Apostolakis and his German counterpart, Ursula von der Leyen who is currently visiting our country.

The German Minister underlined the critical role that Greece plays in addressing the refugee issue as well as the security and stability of the region and stressed that the Prespes agreement is a truly European one, based on Europe’s values.

For his part, Mr. Apostolakis said that Greece, despite the fact that she has a difficult neighbor, makes efforts to defuse tension with defense diplomacy, while he stressed that our country is ready to support the transformation of North Macedonia’s armed forces, ahead of the neighboring country’s NATO accession.
