In a TV interview, Minister for Labor, Social Security and Social Solidarity Efi Achtsioglou announced that the minimum wage will be increased in January, since she believes that the government will be able to persuade the Institutions that the measure of the pension cuts is neither necessary nor structural.

Mrs. Achtsioglou also stressed that an undisputed study on the sustainability of the social security scheme up to 2070 has been conducted, while the government’s economic staff is convinced that the surplus targets can be reached and that no fiscal gap will be created from the measures promoted.

Since today’s government took office, unemployment has dropped by about 7%, and around 300,000 new jobs have been created, 70% of which concern full-time employment, the Minister added, expressing her optimism about a further reduction of unemployment.
