A regional governor was elected in six of the country’s 13 regions, while for the rest of the regions, the final winner will be elected next Sunday, in the second round of elections.

New Democracy is the big winner after having elected representatives in five of the six regions in the first round.

More specifically, the regional governors elected and who are supported by ND are: Apostolos Tzitzikostas in Central Macedonia (62%), Constantinos Agorastos in Thessaly (55%), Alexandros Kachrimanis in Epirus (57%), Yorgos Hatzimarkos in the South Aegean (54%), and Yorgos Kasapidis in West Macedonia (52%).

In Crete, independent MEP Stavros Arnaoutakis (60%), who was supported by both SYRIZA and KINAL was elected in the first round.

The regional governors of Attica, the Ionian Islands, Western Greece, Central Greece, North Aegean, Eastern Macedonia and the Peloponnese, will be elected in  the second round.
