Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki has brought new leads on Novartis case to the parliamentary preliminary investigation committee dealing with the case. The committee has allegedly received two letters sent by Novartis to former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, concerning issues of pharmaceutical expenses, as well as one hand-written note bearing the insignia of his office, with the particulars of the then Finance Minister Christos Staikouras.

New Democracy does not consider these letters important. New Democracy MPs, members of the special committee, have said that these letters were drafted a few days before the Economic Forum in Davos, so that executives of the company would meet with Mr. Samaras, but Mr. Samaras did not go to Davos. At the same time, Evangelos Venizelos has been brought into a hearing before the preliminary investigation committee; Mr. Venizelos has raised objections for certain issues of legal nature, and has stressed that for reasons of institutional and political integrity, the investigation must be conducted by this particular committee, otherwise nothing will ever be investigated.
