“Us Greeks can only see through the great and important issues if we are united,” said once more Hellenic Republic President, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, during his speech at the “Nikos Kazantzakis and Politics” scientific conference, which opened today at the Acropolis Museum, on the occasion of the 30-year anniversary of the Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis International Society’s foundation.

As Mr. Pavlopoulos pointed out, Kazantzakis, during some of the most critical circumstances for the Hellenic Nation, which coinciding with his own life, abandoned his ascetic stance and “fought”, with any physical and spiritual strength he had, for our country and for the unity of our people.

He also pointed out that Nikos Kazantzakis was not a “political writer” by any conventional interpretation of the term. However, politics is present in his work, in the same way that religion is. It runs through it, and it inspires it from beginning to end.

The Hellenic Republic President concluded by stressing that “above all, Kazantzakis defended freedom, because through the mind, it is freedom that can lead to truth”.
