Eleftherios Petrounias showed his mettle at the extremely testing event, as he edged out local favorite and 2012 champion Arthur Zanetti to win the rings gold medal at the Rio Olympics on Monday.

Petrounias added the Olympic gold to his collection of European titles with a total score of 16.000. People in Greece have started calling him “the lord of the rings”.
Zanetti lost the first place by just 0.234 of a point while Russia’s Denis Abliazin had to settle for bronze.

Τhis is the first gold for Greek gymnastics in 12 years after the victory of Demosthenis Tampakos again in rings, in the Athens Olympics.
