Within the scope of the UN General Meeting, which is held at the organization’s headquarters in New York, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday. Mr. Guterres commended Greece for the way it handled the refugee crisis, and said that the agreement with FYROM, for the change of the neighboring country’s name, is “historical”.

In the meeting, the Greek Premier referred to the Cyprus issue and to Greece’s claim for a fair and sustainable solution within the framework of the UN decisions, while also pointing out the importance of the Greek-Turkish dialogue, as well as the need for Turkey to respect international law in the area.

On Friday, Mr. Tsipras will address the UN General Meeting, thus concluding his five-day visit in New York.
