US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit has confirmed the excellent relations between Athens and Washington and the mutual desire for further cooperation in areas such as defense, security, investment and energy.

On Monday, M. Pompeo met with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, in Thessaloniki, while today he will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotaki in Chania.

“The United States and Greece share common views on the Eastern Mediterranean issue and both countries have reaffirmed their belief that maritime border issues must be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law,” said the Greek Foreign Ministry in a joint statement.

Greece and the United States reiterated their support for the accession of the Western Balkan countries to European and transatlantic institutions, noting Greece’s efforts to this end.
