Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is flying to Beijing today, accompanied by Foreign Minister Yiorgos Katrougalos, in order to attend the second high-level forum of the Belt & Road Initiative, which takes place on April 25-27, 2019.

This Chinese initiative is aimed at developing regional co-operation and intercontinental connectivity to boost trade, investment and infrastructure between China and the other participating countries.

The Prime Minister is expected to give a speech at the Forum’s inaugural meeting of tomorrow, Friday 26/4, as well as on Saturday (27/4) at the Leaders Round Table, on “Enhancing Connectivity to Finding New Forms of development “.

Following its admission to the “17 + 1 Initiative”, Greece’s participation in the Silk Road Initiative according to government sources, strengthens the role of the country as an interconnector between Europe and Asia and is expected to have multiple benefits for the Greek economy.
