Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced snap elections on Sunday night, and said that the electoral result does not meet the ruling party’s expectations.

“Today’s electoral result gives the main opposition the right to challenge the entire course of the exit from the crisis. The final verdict always belongs to the people. I do not intend to escape or run away”, said the prime minister, stressing that he remains faithful to his principles.

ND commented that “Mr. Tsipras, under the burden of an overwhelming defeat, was forced to call for national elections. The Greeks, with their vote, gave the solution and will pave the way for a bright Greece. ”

The Prime Minister will ask the President of the Republic for the dissolution of parliament and national elections, after the completion of the second round of the municipal elections next Sunday. The predominant date for the parliamentary elections is Sunday 30 June.
