The Greece-US enhanced military co-operation reflects Washington’s “tangible” commitment to support alliance relations with Greece, said US Ambassador to Athens, Geoffrey Pyatt during a speech at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington.

Responding to a question of whether the US is willing to intervene preventively to avoid a crisis in the Aegean or the Eastern Mediterranean, the US Ambassador stressed that Washington is fully committed to all aspcets of its allied relationship with Greece.

On his position regarding relations with Turkey, Mr. Pyatt underlined the need to keep the diplomatic channels of communication open to solving problems, and praised the Greek government’s efforts in this direction.

Greece has responded responsibly to “some rather provocative actions Turkey has carried out” and this must be acknowledged, said Geoffrey Pyatt, and added that “Athens has consistently sought to keep the channels of communication with Ankara open through the Confidence Building Measures.”
