Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection N. Toskas stated that all regions of the country hit by bad weather are declared in a state of emergency for a six months period. He added that the ministry will take immediate steps to compensate the disaster victims.

Wednesday’s strong winds and heavy storms in several regions of the country resulted in the death of four in Peloponnese (Messinia and Laconia), and one woman missing in Epanomi, Thessaloniki.

Within the last 24 hours, the Fire Brigade Operations Centre received hundreds of calls for help due to floods, mainly in Thessaloniki and the prefectures of Messinia and Laconia, where rescue teams helped dozens of people.
