Heavy snowfall has hit many parts of the country, including Peloponnese, Halkidiki and Karditsa. In Phthiotis, the first problems are already visible. From the junction of Martinos (117 km) to the toll of Tragana, there is heavy snowfall and snow blowers are constantly cleaning the road in order to keep the national network open. The traffic was interrupted in several mountainous and provincial streets of Nafpaktia and Peloponnese.

Snow is also falling in Parnitha and the Municipality of Athens has announced emergency measures for the homeless. A heated room at the Municipal Cultural Center, (50 Akadimias street) will be open and an emergency phone number (1595) will be established. Urgent measures will also be taken in the area of Piraeus.

Since yesterday morning, snow removal machines from the Attica region are in Parnitha and the West and East Attica working to keep the road network open and accessible. Depending on the intensity of the snowfall, the number of machines operating in other regions has also increased.

According to the National Meteorological Service, today, there will be temporary snowfall in northern Greece. In central and southern Greece it will rain while in mountainous and semi-mountainous it will snow. The phenomena will gradually intensify and strong storms are expected in the south.

In Attica, it is expected to rain, with sleet in the semi-mountainous regions and temporary snowfall in Parnitha (more than 800 meters altitude). The temperature will range between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius while in the north it will be 2 to 3 degrees lower.

In Thessaloniki, the weather will be cloudy, especially in the morning. The temperature will range between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius.
