The inebriating sounds of Crete’s Anogeia village will vibrate at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center during a two-day tribute on 26 and 27 May 2018.
From the top of the Psiloritis mountain to the National Opera’s Alternative Stage, distinguished musicians and experienced organists will present Crete’s inexhaustible tradition through a series of concerts and musical instruments exhibitions.
The tribute, titled The sound of Anogeia, features concerts by the virtuoso mandolinist Michalis Kontaxakis, the guitar virtuoso Christos Tzifakis, as well as the dynamic duo Xylouris White. The duo comprised of lute player Giorgos Xylouris (Psarogiorgis) and Dirty Three drummer, Jim White, “is one of the most intriguing fusion duos you’ll come across,” according to The Guardian.
During the two-day tribute, an exhibition featuring traditional Cretan instruments will be visible at the Foyer and the National Opera VIP Lounge, as well as instruments from the Museum of Traditional Instruments for Doctoral Research and Documentation.
