The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recognizes the economic progress that has been achieved by Greece, said IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice, adding that this success was mainly credited to the Greek government and the sacrifices of the Greek people, and expressed his conviction that the IMF contributed to this good outcome.

As Mr Rice reiterated, the IMF had publicly expressed its support for the demand for strong debt relief and has repeatedly highlighted this issue through the reports it has made public.

Replying to a question on whether the IMF was trying to cover up the mistakes it had made in the Greek program through its communications policy, Rice noted that the IMF has been transparent in communicating all aspects of the support it has given to Greece.
