“The European Union will not tolerate Ankara’s arbitrary actions and the violations of international law, which undermine peace and stability in the strife-torn region of the Middle East”, said the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos in a speech on Sunday, during the celebrations for the 448 years since the historic Nafpaktos naval battle.

He also referred to this particular battle as one of the most emblematic events in the history of Europe, “because the then united European forces stopped the extremely dangerous expansionist policy of the Ottoman Empire in Europe through the destruction of its fleet, which was considered invincible.”

In conclusion, Mr. Pavlopoulos warned the neighboring country that Greece, if necessary, will impose the full and sincere respect for all international and European law, with the support of its Allies in NATO and its Partners in the European Union.
