The primary budget surplus rose up to 1.85 billion euros in the first quarter of 2019 from 840 million euros in the corresponding period of 2018, according to figures released by the Bank of Greece.

During this period, ordinary budget revenue amounted to 10.527 billion euros, compared to 11.331 billion euros in the corresponding period last year, while expenditure amounted to 12.6 billion euros, from 11.9 billion euros recorder last year.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the Euro2day website, European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said that if the required budgetary space is available, the European Commission will support a possible request by the Greek side to not reduce the tax-free income.

However, he added, it is important that the agreed budgetary targets be respected while at the same time, he announced that the Commission supports the initiative for early repayment of IMF loans.
