House Speaker, Nikos Voutsis, announced to the press on Thursday, the report of the Independent Committee for Wildfires Management, regarding the causes of last summer’s fire at Mati as well as the exploration of the prospects of managing future fires.

In a lengthy 150-page report, the six-member Scientific Committee, headed by the chairman of the Max Planck Institute and Director of the World Fire Observatory, Johann Georg Goldammer, gives a detailed account of the current situation with regard to the prevention and repression of forest fires in Greece, he records the problematic aspects of the management mechanism and submits a comprehensive proposal for the effective response to the natural phenomenon in the future.
